We have made Monsignor Murphy's our home on Wednesday nights. The Pro Blues Jam has been going strong since July 2008, and we have built a steady network of local musicians. A few regulars have become very good friends of ours. Paul & Laurie are now our significant couple to hang with, and we consider them family. Always full of laughter, love, and support for our Music! This place is the best! When I moved into my new apartment, it was the first place that my boy-friend and I went to. Every bar tender makes the effort to get to know you and take care of you when you become a regular. I love the beer garden out back, the friendly staff, and the tunes. I moved away from Chicago and miss it terribly now! And if you're hungry, the hot dogs downstairs are great and they'll bring them up to you! I'll be back every chance I get! Alex and G are the best!! :-D"

I gotta tell ya, I miss this place more than anything and everyone that comes in..and the great people that work there. I call it my "Cheers" bar. It's not a club, not a pretentious bar. Just a great place to relax and talk to people who are just like you. Whoop whoop! Haha. Anyone who moves to Chicago should go there. You won't regret it. Thanks for the good times!"

One of my favs to drink at. Most recently his lovely girlfriend Lauri threw him a 60th bday. It was AWESOME! Not only is she sweet, pretty and a GREAT SINGER, but an all around down to earth lady. My girlfried and I were there and the gift she gave him was priceless. It will live on forever. Don't loose this good girl Mr. M. You will be sorry."
Rob

I miss Murphy's so much! I recently moved to Seattle a few months ago, but before that, I lived around the corner from Murphy's and spent at least three nights a week there. It has the best atmosphere, best bartenders (esp. Hernan) and the best lookout over Broadway. I can't wait to get back to Chi-town. It will be the first place I go!"

Murphy's is "my bar." I tell everyone that it's my "local watering hole...my Cheers." Great bartenders, great jukebox, great dart boards, great people!"

Monsignor Murphy's is a great neighborhood pub. The staff is friendly and ladies, the new addition Alex is YUMMY eye candy! Jen's sweet smile makes it all worth while. G man is in a league all his own!! Caitlin one of the newest, is a sweetheart. When she starts to call you hon you know your a regular. Lindsay, what a girl! No words can describe the way she lights up the room each time she works. Last but surely not least Hernan. Always ready to serve with a GREAT smile. We love those dimples. So, the next time you visit Chicago, stop at this warm enviting pub, I promise you won't be dissapointed. "

best place i have ever been to and the coolest fun loving bartenders in the country"
andy

Murphys bar is a bar where the whole staff is more then drink servers, they get to know who you are, and introduce you to other customers. on saturday and sundays there is free bar food, and you should love sports, Doug knows the answer to almost any sport question. During the week Jenny smiles at you and makes your day, you can hear her sing on Thursdays and maybe dance on the bar. I really like the feel of the customers they make you want to come back to Murphys. "

This is the BEST BAR in chicago! It's a sports bar with a twist---live music on Thursday nights! Imagine being in Vegas---Stevie G on keyboards & Gerald Marr on drums---you can sit in with the band or sing karaoke. You never know what celebrity will show up---it's the place where they come to jam. Thank you to Paul Loaiza, the owner, (who also loves to sing), for keeping music alive! "

One of my favorite things about this place is that when I was there, there was a huge variety of types of people there. There were some middle aged women, young guys, trixies (but a limited number) and my group which was some folks in their early 20s. The only... and i mean ONLY downside is that there's no place for seating more than about 5 or 6 people... but that can be a good thing too."

Another fun weeknight or starter bar. Strong drinks and friendly bartenders liven up the experience. The dartboards are actually in a good spot. I hate when bars have them near a high traffic area. The only people you'll find by them are those playing. Also have a bunch of random books on shelves. It's always fun to read at bars. Seriously, get the bartender/owner's ear, tell a good joke and you may get a drink. When Audra and I went I used the one about the best part of dating a homeless girl. So you can't. Oh yeah, she used the one about the worst part of rollerblading. "

Great little neighborhood bar. My girlfriend took me here for my birthday and from what I remember, it was great. We pretty much stuck to pitchers of domestic beer so I can't comment on the food."
EJ F.

This is another "Cheersy" type of bar. It's a great place where everyone is friendly, and willing to help you out. One year for New Year's, we past by and and decided to stay to celebrate the new year on the lower-key, non-clubby celebration. At the time, it was down the street from my apt, and I absolutely fell in love with this place. The food isn't terrific, but they have great prices on drafts, and the bartenders are super friendly!." Like someone else said, this bar is good for a weeknight or a starter bar (or an ending bar ...) it's old-school irish pub in front (free popcorn!), food sucks, fun laid-back atmosphere. after going here a few times i finally discovered the back patio which is really cool. i can't describe it except to say it is cramped but probably one of the more unique patios i've been on. very fun bartenders all around."

Monsignor Murphy's is pretty fantastic. It's laid back, comfortable and a little dive-y without being dirty. The crowd is pretty chill and surprisingly open to meeting strangers, and the bartenders are really friendly. Perfect for a couple drinks on a weeknight, as there are good tunes that aren't so loud you can't talk, places to sit, and at a minimum a small crowd. Oh, and once my friend and I managed to make a boy cry here, which somehow makes it all the more stellar in my book." "

"I liked the small town feeling of this place. It was clean, well kept, and the bathrooms were adorable. I liked their double specials; one beer and one drink. The truly best thing about this bar was the music. NICE NICE NICE. Classic, sing-a-long music that made me want to dance! Thanks!."
Allison B.

Gosh, drinking is AWESOME! I have to admit though, that I've had trouble finding exactly the kind of bar in my neighborhood where you could just go in sit down and have some beer with the good people of Chicago. Monsignor Murphy's has restored my faith that this kind of bar does exist in Chicago. I like being able to go in with a buddy, sit down, and grab a couple of High Lifes. I have no criticism for the more trendier places in the neighborhood, but this place is just more "me". I'll definitely be going back. You should come with me! Later we can get burritos, and that's AWESOME too! "

"Honey, we're not in boystown anymore. The longer I live in Lakeview, among the trendy and expensive bars/clubs/restaurant scene, the more appreciative I am of places like Murphys. Not to say that I don't love those bars--but it's nice to be able to chill at a laid back place where you know people aren't critiquing your clothing or haircut. This bar makes you feel at home and offers an intimate space for small-table discussions. The dart area and beer garden at also big pluses. I'll be back.""
